Kick off Costa Rica Blues Festival week with a high-energy night of improvisation, collaboration, and pure blues spirit—headlined by international blues guitar sensation Tommy Z.
The Kick Off Party & Pro Blues Jam on Wednesday, February 18 is a professional, invitation-only jam session that brings together some of Costa Rica’s finest blues musicians for a one-of-a-kind musical encounter. At the heart of the night will be Tommy Z and his band, arriving from Buffalo, New York.
Tommy Z will lead the jam and set the pace for an unforgettable night of blues. Adding even more power to the lineup are Texas drummer Kevin Berry of the Sparky Parker Band, and guitarist and singer JC Smith from San Francisco, California, whose driving grooves will take the energy on stage to the next level.
This special evening will also shine a spotlight on the next generation of Costa Rican blues, with featured performances by two outstanding young local bands:
🎶 Jack the Blues A rising force in the local scene, Jack the Blues blends classic blues roots with fresh energy and modern influences, delivering powerful grooves, expressive vocals, and a deep respect for traditional blues traditions.
🎶 Blues Avenue – Blues Avenue brings a fluid and dynamic approach to the blues, blending timeless standards with original material that reflects the growth of the blues movement in Costa Rica.
Throughout the night, the jam will feature the participation of some of the country’s most respected and experienced blues musicians, including Aaron Retana, Carlos Domínguez, Edgar Sequeira, Smokin’ Mo, Gabo Montoya, Alberto Chotocruz, Franco Torterolo, Johannie Hernández and many more, creating a vibrant and collaborative atmosphere worthy of the Festival’s 10th Anniversary..
Expect fiery solos, spontaneous creativity, and the warm camaraderie that defines the blues. This is the ultimate kickoff to the 10th Anniversary Costa Rica Blues Festival and a must-see event for blues lovers.

The Costa Rica Blues Festival continues to light up the groove with another unmissable night on the road to our 10th Anniversary Grand Event in Grecia. Join us at Mundoloco, one of San José’s most beloved live music venues, for an intimate, high-energy evening dedicated to soul, swing, and the celebration of the blues.
Headlining the night is JC Smith,a singer and guitarist from San Francisco, California. Known for his powerful voice, deep blues feeling, and expressive guitar work, JC Smith blends classic blues tradition with West Coast energy and a modern edge. With years of experience on stages across the United States, JC delivers raw, emotional performances designed to connect with true blues lovers.
Opening the night will be Smokin’ Mo & Blues Devils, one of the cornerstone bands of the Costa Rican blues scene. Active since the year 2000, this legendary group has played a key role in keeping the blues alive in Costa Rica, inspiring generations of musicians and fans.
Their solid grooves, authentic sound, and undeniable chemistry make them the perfect band to kick off this special festival night.

Held indoors in the spacious hall next to the swimming pool at Club Campestre Griego, this Sunday event offers the perfect blend of comfort, great acoustics, and good times.
